Chateau Saint Jeannet is an 11th century fortress built for the defence of France, lovingly restored from ruins to a very luxurious residence.

History
Chateau St Jeannet was built in the early part of the 11th century as a defensive fort against the Italians. The builder was Marquis Villeneuve whose family were responsible for the defence of southern France.

Through the middle ages the Chateau was destroyed and rebuilt several times and in it’s last encounter with the Italians the Chateau suffered an enormous blow and remained as ruins for more than a hundred and fifty years.

The French actress, Viviane Romance, endeavoured unsuccessfully to rebuild the chateau in the Fifties . It subsequently fell into dis-repair until is was recently restored to it’s former glory.
